Hart Street Tavern

Set in Henley-on-Thames, one of England’s oldest market towns, the brief was to refurbish and reinstate a restaurant in a way that felt established and natural. A 'Tavern' is a place to gather, drink and be served food. This simplicity became a core concept throughout the project.

The building was extensively stripped back, and the interior design has re-crafted the building into an authentic, stylish restaurant with a traditional English bar, cosy lounge seating, immersive main dining experience and a private dining area. The flow of the restaurant was key to the client's vision; a soft entrance welcomes you into the relaxed setting of the bar and lounge, which then leads into the main restaurant area, offering a comprehensive dining experience. A more serious dining experience at the back was achieved by changing styles of furniture, materials and paint scheme as you progressed through the restaurant.

Spratley & Partners took the project from brand identity, through initial concepts to completion. Since opening, the restaurant has led the resurgence of a famous old high street that is now attracting world famous names, such as Harrods Cafe.
