Leighton Road

This Victorian terrace in Bristol has been transformed from a narrow terrace footprint into a spacious family home, blending period character with modern living.

The renovation introduces a new family kitchen, updated bathrooms and a generous loft extension. Alongside this work, a full interior design and fit-out create a harmonious connection between the architecture and every interior detail. The result is a home that’s both comfortable and practical, designed to support the flow of daily family life. The project illustrates Spratley & Partners’ integrated approach, where interior design is central to the architecture itself rather than added on at the end.

Designing around a way of life

Working closely with the client to understand their needs and aspirations, the design team reconfigured and expanded the existing layout to unlock the home’s full potential.

By adding well‑planned extensions and opening up views between rooms, the design lets in more natural light and makes the layout more adaptable for family life. Well-planned storage and room layouts create an efficient home that still feels full of personality.

Restoring heritage with restraint

Historic features were sensitively reinstated and paired with a refined contemporary palette. Natural materials add warmth, texture and longevity, while antiques, artwork and personal objects bring depth and narrative. The result is an interior that feels layered yet controlled. A quiet balance of old and new.

Lighting defines mood

Lighting was carefully considered to create a flexible environment: functional by day and softly atmospheric by night. Every detail, from joinery and finishes to the play of light, contributes to a calm and cohesive whole.

Every corner should tell a story. We wanted spaces that not only look beautiful but work effortlessly for how we live. Louise and the team made that a reality for us. The result is a home that celebrates comfort and a life well lived.
