Working At S&P

We are architects and designers with a brilliant support team and working culture. Together, we work as a strong collective to realise the potential of a project and its design possibilities. We do our best to empower our employees and our approach recognises talent and provides a supporting structure to allow people to grow and learn, develop specialisms and provide the highest quality of service to our clients.
Equal Opportunities and Diversity
We employ a diverse team of architects and designers from a wide range of nationalities, cultures, genders and personalities. We see this as a growing strength and an approach that encourages broader design responses as our team draw inspiration from a breadth of rich cultural heritages and communities.
Investing in People
Architectural education funding is a hot topic in the profession. We are leading the way with financial support and mentoring to encourage the professional development of the next generation of architects. We offer up-front financial support for employees to explore a range of routes to gaining their architectural qualifications which, due to funding gaps, would not have continued otherwise.
Apprenticeships
We offer our architects in training the opportunity to enrol on architectural apprenticeship courses. This is a relatively new route to qualifying, combining practical experience in an architectural practice with academic training at university. There are currently two degrees available, both of which are approved by the Institute of Apprenticeships and Technical Education. RIBA also validates apprenticeship courses at several UK universities.

The apprenticeship pathway is likely to gain momentum as the number of RIBA-recognised courses increases and the cost of traditional full time university education is viewed as prohibitively expensive. We are keen to be involved in this initiative to shift the long-term focus of the profession to be more inclusive.

CPD & Training

We provide a varied and interesting range of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and training opportunities, which take place over lunch in our Henley and Bristol studios. We encourage and organise half or full day training courses and topics include Sustainability, Health and Safety and Fire Safety. Qualifications and training courses include Passive House, CDM 2015 and Sustainable Real Estate.
CPD is an accreditation institution with a commitment to providing ongoing lifelong learning. It encourages and identifies opportunities to learn something new, refresh existing knowledge, improve skills, or simply keep up to date with the latest developments within a particular profession or industry.
Design Reviews
We hold a design review over breakfast once a month, where we share what we have been working on, critique work and hear from new voices within our team. This informal get-together allows us to benefit from lessons learnt across a range of sector experiences. Design is an iterative process and as we don’t always get it right first time, this is a good opportunity to challenge, listen and debate with our colleagues.

Our employees are the engine of our practice and their good health and wellbeing are key to remaining energetic and engaged. In a fast-paced world and working environment we aim to provide the best quality of life for our team, both day-to-day and in the longer term.

Our benefits include flexible working, enhanced holiday and parental leave, childcare vouchers and a company pension scheme. We also offer other benefits such as private healthcare, a cycle to work scheme and professional body subscription fees.

Time To Celebrate

We come together across the year to celebrate landmark moments for our team and for the practice. In the summer and at Christmas we invite the whole team to get together for the day and night. Henley Royal Regatta is a highlight of the English summer season, and we make the most of this as it is on our doorstep in Henley. There are also studio trips and social events, including the Run in the Dark 10k and the LandAid 10k.

Charities

We have supported the following charities over the last few years:
Land Aid
Property industry charity working to end homelessness in the UK.
MAMA (Midwives at Maternity Azur)
Educating women and empowering midwives in Uganda.

Our Studios

We designed our Henley and Bristol studio interiors to encourage great design work, collaboration and open discussion. We can facilitate large group presentations and meetings and these bespoke open and light spaces also promote team morale, wellbeing and a sense of pride in who we are and where we work.
